Dixie the little slugger

When I was riding before passing my test, Dixie was there for me.  When I was unemployed and the only job I could get was a motorcycle courier, Dixie was there for me.  Now Dixie is my mode of transport to work in WC1 London and she is still there for me.  Love, sex, sweet Alabama and Dixie what more could a man want!

Imagine how I felt when I came out of the house about a weed and half ago to find her on her side all bust up.   I’m not sure if someone clipped her in their car or pushed her over for a joke,  very funny.  But, a broken clutch leaver and rear light meant that she was un-ridable.

Part ordered from Wemoto and I had a wait for their arrival and the weekend so I could patch her up.

The rear light lens is, well was held on by two bolts, one of the  posts for the bolt was broken off so she now has some gaffa tape holding it on.  She also has some more gaffa take holding the rear plastic together.  Got the work done now so she is ready for duty on Monday morning.

London’s transport system is good, don’t get me wrong, but that is when it works and when you are not travelling in rush hour.  To use it everyday is a nightmare.  My usual journey on Dixie is about 30-35 minutes, by train and tube it is 1hr 10-15 minutes at the best.  Public transport is also more expensive and more stressful.

Dixie good to have you back old girl 🙂

Choices, choices.

The main reason for my leaving the Big Smoke and spending 5 months in South America was to try and get back to myself after being stressed out with work.  Also to think about what other things I can do with my life with regard a career.  Far from answering those questions my 5 months has just seemed to have opened up more questions.

Yes I have refound my love for the Spanish language (not here in Argentina), also for mountain biking.  I now have a mate near the north downs with a spare bike and wants people to go riding with, fantastic.  Aslo I have more spanish speaking friends.

The motorbiking I´ve done down this part of the world has been fantastic and I am well hooked.  Where will this lead!?

But what about work, a job!  I´ve been in contact with some agencies but all seem to have work with CROs.  Contract organisations and this work will involve more stress.  I know that I´m not the sort of person for that kind of work.  Working for a big pharma would still be stressful. There is going back to academic clinical trials but there doesn´t seem to many positions going at the moment.

Then there is the “and now for something completely different”, but what.  I have toyed with doing a rope access course and taling to one guy I met who worked on building sites there does sound some good money in that, but that would mean working out side in all weathers etc.

One mate suggested working as a courier and there is more money in working as a motorbike courier than as a cycle courier.   I did see some jobs posted but they were for bike bigger than 250.

Any suggestions on my next move?
