My next bike?
SV, XRV, ZZR……
Pro-biker
Dispatch riders, couriers, call them what you want, they are everywhere in and around London. Times were getting hard , I had no job and my savings were falling, courier work seemed like the answer. I could earn some money working as a courier until I got a permanent job, I would get more experience riding a motorbike and I could say to girls I used to be a professional motorbike rider, what a great plan. Not so! I did the job but there was little money to be had and once you take away overheads like petrol was not even earning minimum wage. At least I can still look back and say I did it.
Motorbike storage
When I went to South America I had to put my bike Dixie into storage. I did some research on-line on how to do this and did a posting motorbike storage, on how to do this and how well it worked out. After 5-6months of not garage storage the battery was flat, which would be expected but with a good push and a bump start the bike started first time.
South America motorbiking
One of the things I wanted to get out of my trip to South America was to gain more experience with motorbikes. One of the good things about South America it is a little bit lawless and this can be done without a licence. I did a trip on a KX 250 two stroke in Sucre, where I learned to give a lot of respect to two strokes and did some damage to my body and in Peru did a trip with a mate on XR650 where we went off road up to 4900 meters.
First bike
After lots of encouragement from a mate I went and passed my CBT on the second attempt. Not a really big step in itself but a start of one of the best things I have done in my life. Part of this milestone was baying my first bike, a Suzuki GS 125 year 1990 (aka Dixie). After 20 years and 60 thousand miles it is looking tired and dated. The funny thing about bikes is, it’s easier to make a connection with them. It is looking dated but in a very Retro style. This is not just me saying this but others. I’ve a long way to go but I’m looking forward to the journey.
Hurry up then.
I know, the distractions of life would be my excuse! It would be so nice to be posting something with regard to a big bike or future trip in its planning stage. Please wait a little longer, an update will be coming “soon”.
